Ear infections and hearing aids

Ear infections are a painful and inconvenient condition which is more prevalent in children, but adults can still suffer from them.

  • inflammation and pain
  • tenderness to the touch
  • hearing changes
  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • dizziness
  • fever
  • headache
  • swelling of the ear

If you have inflammation inside the ear itself or have a compromised immune system, you may find yourself more susceptible to ear infections and that is bad news when you wear hearing aids.

Diligently taking care of your ears and your hearing aids is vital to reduce the incidence and severity of ear infections.

  • Wash your hands thoroughly 
  • Avoid people who might have a cold or other symptoms
  • Keep your vaccinations up to date

While you’re taking good care of your ears, make sure you do the same thing with your hearing aids.

Here are some quick tips:

  • Before removing your hearings, be sure your hands are washed and dried
  • Wipe over your hearing aids with a tissue to remove debris, then use an antiseptic towelette to disinfect before opening the battery door (or putting them in their recharging station.
